If you didn’t registered your lock and/or didn’t ordered additional keys/lock with us and/or didn’t have a key, you will have to make the cylinder lock destroy by a locksmith.

If your Amplock lock is not on your trailer, you can contact us for a quote to make the cylinder destroyed and replaced for a new one.
What to do if my lock doesn't unlock?
At first, please check that REAL is written on your key, so you are sure to have the right key to open your Amplock lock.

Secondly, you have to check how far the the key has turned in the cylinder lock.
To unlock your AMP Lock, the key has to turn ¾ of a rotation.

Here are different situations and how you could potentially resolve them:

- The key is turning ¼ of rotation in the cylinder lock: verify your key, has it been damaged? Is it the right key for this AMP Lock? Try a new key if possible or order a new one on our website (amplock.com).

The key is turning between ¼ and ¾ of rotation in the cylinder lock: lubricate your lock with a lubricant without silicone base (we are using PL-100 by Prolab) and add compressed air in the cylinder lock to remove all grime. After few cleaning operations, your key should turn in order to reach ¾ of rotation, which is where it should be.

The key is turning more than ¾ of rotation or at 360° (1 complete rotation): contact AMP Lock or any locksmith because your cylinder lock has been damaged and the internal mechanism has been broken.

The key is turning ¾ of rotation, but the lock doesn’t open: your cylinder lock is unlocked so something has stopped the cylinder from opening. We recommend to clean around the cylinder with a lubricant without silicone base such as the PL-100 by Prolab and to add compressed air to remove grime.

After these operations, try to open the lock again. If it’s still not working, please contact AMP Lock.
Why custom fit is important?
The presence of a custom-fit lock acts as a visual deterrent to thieves, as it implies higher difficulty and risk. we bring it to a whole new level with our patented designs, turning any attempts of stealing into a long and painful efforts.

Instead of universal-fit design or u-shape lock design, our patented designs
fully isolate the hitch part with a tight fit and maximize the deterrence power:
Once installed, AMPLocks act like a impenetrable skin, entirely made of thick metal.

Take our dual-part locks for ball coupler as example:
First, a thick lock cylinder matching your exact hitch ball dimension is placed into the coupler. Then, a heavy duty shield designed according to your coupler shape, wraps thightly the whole front-side of the coupler.
How can I make sure I choose the right coupler lock?
Find the right lock for your ball coupler in 3 steps with our CLICK AND LOCK tool.

You can also refer to the AMPLock Fit Guide and explore in details all the compatibility options with 2" and 2-5/16' ball coupler.

If more help is needed, send us a message (chat or email), it will be a pleasure for us to help you 😉
What if my lock doesn't fit my ball coupler?
Any AMPLock can be returned or exchanged with no additional fees within 30 days from the purchase date.

What should the maintenance of my AMP Lock be like?
First off, we recommend to lubricate your lock mechanism and around the cylinder with a lubricant without silicone base, we use PL-100 by Prolab. A monthly lubrication with this type of lubricant is highly recommended.

Note that WD-40 is not recommended because it is sticky and it could jam the lock mechanism of your AMP Lock.

Also, depending on the climate, we recommend to presoak your AMP Lock in anti-freeze like ”Prestone” for one full night twice a year. If it is cold or if it snows in your area, we recommend doing it at beginning of the fall and if possible in January. Make sure you unlock your AMP Lock and let all the components open.

After this treatment, lubricate your lock mechanism and around the cylinder with PL-100 or any lubricant without silicone base.

"Just look strong" locks:
- Singular lock design.
- Use same material than cheaper lock or mix it with premium material making the lock vulnerable.
- Discutable quality compensed by "Made in / assembled domestically" badges but unknowed material sources.
- Most of those tested has been broken under one minute.
- Often overpriced regarding resistance capacities delivered.

Heavy-Duty locks:
- Unique and Custom-fit design
- Strong raw material.
- Advanced security features.
- 100% lock manufacturing traceability.

Considering all factors making a lock truly heavy duty, AMPLock is probably the most relevant choice to protect your valuables. However, independant expert says it better than we could:
"...it’s so much stronger than the coupler it secures that making anything beefier would definitely be gilding the lily"
